Starfield Solitaire - How to Play

Objective: Fill the 5x5 grid with cards to form high-scoring astronomical patterns.

Setup: Start with 3 cards in your hand. The rest form the draw pile.

Gameplay:

  • Select a card from your hand.
  • Click an empty square on the grid to place the selected card.
  • Draw a new card from the draw pile to replace the one you played (hand size stays at 3 until the deck runs out).
  • Continue until the 25 grid squares are filled.

Adjacency: Cards are adjacent Up, Down, Left, or Right (not diagonally).

Scoring Patterns (Calculated at Game End):

  • Binary Star: 2 adjacent cards of the same rank = 2 points
  • Main Sequence: 3+ adjacent cards in numerical sequence (ascending or descending, Ace can be 1 or 14).
    • 3 cards = 3 points
    • 4 cards = 5 points (3 + 2 bonus)
    • 5 cards = 7 points (3 + 4 bonus)
  • Red Giant: A 2x2 square of 4 red cards (♥ or ♦) = 5 points
  • Black Hole: A 2x2 square of 4 black cards (♣ or ♠) = 5 points

Important Scoring Note: A single card can contribute to multiple Binary Stars and Main Sequences. However, for Red Giants and Black Holes, each card can only contribute points towards **one** such 2x2 square. Subsequent squares involving already-scored cards won't add points for that specific pattern type.

Face Cards: J=11, Q=12, K=13.

Achievement Levels:

  • 20+ points: Novice Astronomer
  • 30+ points: Star Mapper
  • 40+ points: Celestial Master
